Done towards the end of Grade 9 for Grade 10-12
*Students must have SEVEN subjects that are inclusive of 4 compulsory subjects and 3 which are chosen at the end of Grade 9. This is the criteria to obtain the National Senior Certificate – Grade 12.
The four subjects should include;
- 2 official languages – 1 x Home Language and 1 x First Additional Language
- Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
- Life Orientation
The other three remaining subjects are chosen from a list of 25 subjects. A maximum of two additional languages can be selected.
Should the need arise for which ever reason to change one or more of the optional subjects, could this be done on the following conditions;
- two of the optional subjects can be changed in Grade 10 and 11,
- change only one optional subject during Grade12.
An additional subject can also be added on top of the seven subjects.
